How are police/detectives allowed to discuss fairly recent crimes (including details) on podcasts and documentaries? Seems like there would be some legal concerns in doing so…

Well interestingly, the sheriff in the Dermond murder case our of GA has made a lot of use of podcasts, agreeing to be interviewed and revealing tidbits of info. It’s a strategy – he’s viewing the pods just like mainstream media, where little bits of new info can lead to tips and leads. Since he’s the man in charge, there’s no one questioning his decisions. And he’s very careful to hold some stuff back. No legal issues I can see.
